• A 50-year-old, married father of three was injured when a surgical nurse used an incorrect amount of gas solution during a retinal repair surgery. This error caused excessive pressure in the man’s right eye. In order to relieve the pressure, the man’s eye had to be tapped with a needle every 12 hours for one week totaling 14 taps without anesthesia. A tap involved placing a long needle directly into the eyeball to relieve the pressure caused by the improperly mixed gas. As a result of the surgical nurse’s error the man’s pupil was permanently dilated. Settlement: $100,000.00 (2010)

• An 81-year-old woman became ill after her pharmacy mistakenly provided her the wrong medication in her prescription pill bottle.
